The Flow Manifesto

I like to travel through musical spaces that are filled with divergent sounds that flow together beautifully to create a whole new way of listening. There are common threads running through all musical forms that are independent of genre. There are motifs, themes, sounds, textures, ideas, and words that recur in music again and again across centuries and cultures. I have always loved music that pushes the boundaries in defying our ability to define it.

FlowRadio attempts to weave the common threads together by transcending the notion that music and artists are confined within categorization. Frequently, artists create music that does not fit the record store bin in which their recordings are found. In addition, artists continuously create new musical styles for which there are not yet adequate descriptions. Old forms constantly morph into new ones. And we renew our appreciation for the old forms by listening with new ears.

As artists, many musicians experiment with the range of sounds and textures they can create without being rigidly constrained by genre. The palette of sounds available to artists is always growing through innovations in music technology and the recording process. Instruments and equipment evolve through invention, and this process has been happening throughout the entire history of music. As soon as a definition is coined, the object it defines shifts so that the term is no longer valid or accurate. This is a riddle of music, and FlowRadio is an attempt to get inside this riddle and revel in it.
